Recently a good friend of mine asked me a couple of questions about using coconut oil:
Later . . . I realized that she needed to know more than just the simple answers I gave her.
So I decided to write this page because you’re probably interested in knowing the same things as well!
Basically, 3 to 4 tablespoons of coconut oil per day is what has been recommended for most adults.
CAUTION: Taking too much of any oil when your body is not used to it can cause you to have loose stools.
TIP: 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon (you can start with 1 teaspoon with each of your meals to equal 1 tablespoon per day)
But take the coconut oil dosage that works best for you. Any amount of coconut oil is beneficial.
Some people take less . . . I personally have had to take more. I needed a minimum of 4 tablespoons a day to get the results that worked for me.
And . . . if you need to speed up your metabolism like I needed to, then it is recommended that you get at least 3 tablespoons a day in order to achieve that benefit.
TIP: Because coconut oil speeds up your metabolism, be careful not to take it too late in the evening. I found that out the hard way (several times) and could not fall asleep for hours!
Coconut oil contains the same health promoting medium chain fatty acids (MCFA’ s) that are found in a new mother’s breast milk!
MCFA’s are so important for the health of a growing baby. They provide:
And those same health giving MCFA’s are in coconut oil!
So . . . the recommended 3-4 tablespoons a day is based on the amount of MCFA’s a nursing baby would normally receive within a day in order to stay healthy!Looking for a delicious organic extra virgin coconut oil?
One of the easiest ways you can get your daily amount of coconut oil is to use it instead of any other oil you would normally use in your every day cooking, baking and food preparation.
Find lots of simple ideas on how to use coconut oil for cooking!
You can even take it by the tablespoon as a dietary supplement. But, most of the people I know don’t really like taking it that way.
I like it! Especially since I know how much it has benefited my health!
But, when I take it by the tablespoon . . . I do like it much better when it is liquid.
Using coconut meat and coconut milk is another easy way to get your daily amount of coconut oil. Below are some approximate numbers that should help you with your daily coconut oil dosage:
Fresh Coconut Meat
2 ounces of coconut meat (2"x2" piece) = 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
Shredded/Dried Coconut Meat
1/4 cup of shredded coconut = 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
3-4 ounces of coconut milk = 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
You can also purchase coconut oil supplements . . . but I have never used them.
There are many healthy reasons to use coconut oil! See this list of the many health benefits of coconut oil!
My main reason to start using coconut oil as a daily supplement was to see if it would boost my energy level. Do you need to boost your energy but want to do it naturally?
But, when I started taking coconut oil as a daily supplement . . . in addition to cooking with it . . . that’s when I really noticed an increase in my energy level and my mental clarity!
As well as many other amazing health benefits!
And . . . since I started supplementing with organic extra virgin coconut oil, I am off ALL of the different medicines and supplements I had been taking for years! For:
Yes! All of them!!!
Now, instead of trying to remember when to take all those nasty pills and drops . . . I just enjoy eating delicious organic foods along with using coconut oil, coconut meat and/or coconut milk as my daily, healthy coconut oil supplement!
